In 1932, founder Joesph M. Burrows opened for business on Atlantic Avenue in the Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn, NY.  Atlantic Auto Parts , as it was originally known operated in that location as a parts house for the local neighborhood until 1960.
In that year, Joe moved his business and family out of Brooklyn to Port Washington, Long Island.  His son Peter, who at a young age had begun tinkering with anything that had an engine, had also taken an interest in the business.  As young Peter grew older and began working full time, the business grew as well.
Motive Parts as it was now known had grown into more of a repair shop along with the auto parts store.  Peter insisted to his father that the future lay in remanufacturing engines.  While Joe was hesitant at first, Peter began to bring in engines of all kinds.  Car engines, small truck engines and industrial engines began pouring in.  On top of this, Peter, for a time, became the head engine builder for Dark Horse Racing who ran Boss Mustangs in the early 1970's Trans-Am Series.
In 1976, Motive Engines moved down the street to Beechwood Avenue where it resides today.  In the meantime, Peter's two sons were quickly following in his footsteps, tinkering with go-karts, mini-bikes and dirt bikes at a young age.  Today, Peter, Pete Jr., and Robert successfully operate the most complete, independent, heavy-duty engine remanufacturing facility on the east coast.  They pride themselves on being able to keep all engine remanufacturing operations "in-house" where they hold quality and family tradition first.
